Addendum
I meant to mention it in the last post, but here's an extra little nugget of information.
Over here the Church of England is officially established, meaning it is a branch of the government in some mediaeval sense. This greatly irritates me and the Archbishop of Canterbury, but no-one else much cares. Anyway, it also means that the CoE is under the same anti-discrimination laws as the rest of the state. Someone thought it would be funny to sue for discrimination against non-anglicans for the job of Archbishop. The courts came up with what I thought was an elegant solution, arguably the best short of actually calling for disestablishment.
They ruled that while the church was violating anti-discrimination laws, it's CEO was Jehovah and he was culpable, barring what the court noted as "the difficulty in finding an address to serve the summons to". In other words, should the lamb of god be seen in England's green and pleasant land, he'll be served a writ for contempt of court.
