Say Hello to the new JW(otU)

Things are strange.

It's Wednesday night of first week. By now, I ought to be up to my eyebrows in the second problem set of term, but the truth is that I have very little to do. This is hitting us battle-hardened oxford students hard. As you may know, we have terms that are 8 weeks long- two thirds the length of your average university term. That means we have to work at 150% just to do as well as the average. At first, this makes you sweat blood and reflect that you might contemplate suicide if you could clear half an hour in your diary to do so. By now, we've gotten into the groove (so to speak). We're steely-eyed and resolute. Having three consequetive days without anything much to do has thrown us right out of balance. We're wandering around, assuring each other that it's O.K. This isn't administrative oversight. This is psychological warfare.

I hope it's not displacement activity, but I've been finding plenty to do- viz, as of the actions of today I'm Acting Secretary for my college's newly-forming Science Society. I'll probably talkabout this more as time goes on. Plus, I've just been presedentially appointed the JCR Joint Webmaster (Of The Universe). Exactly what this will entail, remains to be seen.

I hope it's not a lot of work.
