The FromEach/ToEach criteria
One of the things that happened while I was in the limbo of exam revision was a series of elections- European and city council. It's one of the few breaks I took. You'll be used to my hyperbole now, but I can say with 100% frankness that they held a carnival on my street and I didn't even see it until the newspapers arrived the next morning.
But a break I did take for the elections. And in that consummation of my role as a political animal, that rite of passage marking my acceptance into the joint venture of democracy, I confirmed in the black ink of the ballot what had so long been suspected.
I'm a bit of an old lefty.
Let's be clear about this. There were parties to the left of where I put my cross- you know, the Nationalise All Industry crowd. On the world scale though, I'm defintely over on the Robin Hood side of the equation. I'm left of the prevailing New labour government, but that's a bit like describing Spain as "warmer than Inverness".
On the American scale- the land where left-wing leaders campaign on the platform of their war record- the land where journalists try and fail to find distinguishing features between the chief parties- the land where the current leadership has gone so far right that those in the know start to compare it to the book of revelations...
On the American scale, I'm halfway to Havana.
