Brother Doorkeeper

When I choose my room in this house, I knew there would be upsides and downsides.

It's the front of the house on the ground floor, which means I have a big room, no stairs to climb, and picture windows. It's also the only room in the house that's been broken into, and it's the window you tap on if (say) you've managed to lock yourself out at three in the morning. You win some, you loose some.

There are also aspects I didn't expect. For one, the big picture window makes a sharply-defined chill zone where all the moisture I exhale can hold reunions on the glass. That was a surprise, but not as much as getting to know the postal workers in our area.

I've signed for packages on behalf of the name Stewart, Sima, Lynch and Okada- I must be one of the few people in the house who still hasn't received anything . A few days ago one arrived addressed to Baker, but when they handed me the form to sign it was already filled in with "Nathan Hill".

I don't quite know what to think about that.
