Strumming

It has been said that student house is not a student house unless there's a guitar lounging in some corner, that is occaisionally strummed at unexpected moments.

It might be said that my house is now truly a student house. Housemate Jo spent £12 (about $20) to get a guitar advertised in a free Newspaper (the Oxford Journal. if you're interested). To me, she sounds sub-Hendrix in skill. Actually, to be more descriptive, she sounds like she could be on a CD compilation with a woodsy cover.

Now, she doesn't think she's any good.

I fear I'm going this way. I must remember that this is not my personal diary.

Anyway, she doesn't think she's any good because she mostly plays songs with names like "A" or "E". i have to admit, by the time the buffet had opened for Musical aptitude served with warm Creativity, I had filled up on Mathematical Intuition.

Scene: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Him: That guy is singing out of tune.
Her: He's using quarter-tones. In many oriental cultures quarter-tones are used in music, but westerners only use half-tones, so it sounds odd to us.
Me: What do you mean, "out of tune" ?

But I, personally, plan to say loudly "I know J McB" when you're all astounded by her talent.

Oh, Lecture.

Song in my head: "Guest list" by Eels, and now "Goddess on a highway" by Mercury Rev. I mean no commentary on their ability to sing in tune.
