In the long days that pass here in Devon, I spend a lot of my time re-living my youth by touring this computer's hard drive. That's when I came across this. It was sent to me once upon a time by Devonfriend Jim. I never maneged to find out where it came from, and it's not so hard to believe that he created it. He actually does speak like that. So without further ado, I present:


20 things u never knew about wood

1> money doesny grow on trees, or so the saying goes. but wood does! believe it or not a tree is nothing more than a giant flower, made of wood. and it has leaves on it

2>saying "u cant see the wood for the trees" is like saying "u cant see the school for the fish". thats because a groupe of trees is a wood.

3>as indeed a group of rhinocerouses is a "crash"

4>as indeed is a groupe of gorillas is a "flange"

4>cave man first discovered woods potential as a manufacturing material, making crude wooden clubs to hit dinosaurs with.

5>the queen motheres teeth, originallya wedding gift from sir henry moore to king george vi, are made entirely out of wood

6>many of todays popstars take their names from wood

7>and so do many sports stars

8>one example for 7 would be the rugby player, rory underwood

9>the word wood can be used twice in one sentence. for example "wood u pass me the wood please, woody(out of the bay city rollers). in fact thats actually three

10>you might expect a bread bord to be made out of bread. but ud be disappointed. it is infact a flat round bord made forcutting bread on, made out of wood.

11>similary a cheese bord is not necessarily made of cheese. but its not necessarily made out of wood either. i konw someone whos got one made of marble

12>mind u theyre usually made of wood

13>the gas bord is definatly not made of wood. rather it is an
administrative body responsible for the sale and distribution of domestic and comercial gas supplies.

14>the greek word for wood is xylos meaning xylophone or literally wooden piano

15>it may not look appetising to us, but wood is eaton and enjoyed by many animals, amoung them beavers, whose revolving sawlike teeth can fell six trees in a minuite

16>some animals dont eat wood but r actually made out of it. for example the wooden hores of troy, a large wooden horse of troy. and woodworms, small worms made out of wood.

17>a clothes horse is not what u might expect, another type of horse, made out of clothes. it is infact an indoor washing line sort of thing made out of wood

18>and a saw horse is not a horse made out of saws. in fact its not a horse at all. but it is made out of wood

19>a horse fly isnt a horse either. its a fly that eats horses(but that isnt made out of wood).
